Engineer Abdulaziz Al-Ghafari, Chairman of the Oil Exploration and Production Authority, attended a meeting organized by the Ministry of Oil and Minerals, attended by His Excellency the Minister of Oil and Minerals, Dr. Abdullah Al-Amir, and His Excellency the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, Dr. Radwan Al-Rubai, to review prospects for cooperation between the oil and agricultural sectors in Yemen.
The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation in protecting and replenishing groundwater in the Sana’a Basin, and coordinating and exchanging information between relevant parties.
This will be achieved through analyzing geological and hydrological data and regulating agricultural and industrial uses of water, ensuring the sustainability of this vital resource. The meeting also discussed the importance of exchanging information between relevant parties and developing monitoring and follow-up systems to address environmental and water challenges, especially in light of climate change and urban and agricultural expansion.
Engineer Al-Ghafari affirmed the Authority’s commitment to integrating efforts with the General Authority for Water Resources, the Geological Survey and Mineral Resources Authority, and other relevant entities to develop effective mechanisms for protecting groundwater reserves, emphasizing the need to enhance technical and information cooperation to achieve common goals. The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Ajam, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Minerals Affairs, Eng. Hadi Quraiah, Chairman of the General Authority for Water Resources, and Mohammed Al-Jahdari, Director of the Office of the Chairman of the Geological Survey and Mineral Resources Authority.
