Wild environment

The wild environment is the biosphere in which various forms of wildlife appear. This environment consists of two elements:

A cosmic element that includes living organisms, including humans, animals, and plants

Natural materials such as air, water, soil, organic and inorganic materials, as well as natural systems.

Pollution occurs as a result of oil leakage from oil extraction or transportation facilities, whether as a result of oil spill accidents or ongoing small leaks. Which has major negative effects on the wild environment, starting with soil pollution and groundwater pollution. Its effects are directly reflected on wild plants and animals because they are toxic chemicals found in crude oil or its derivatives, which leads to damage to tissues and organs, health problems, and the death of living organisms.
Therefore, the Petroleum Exploration and Production Authority is keen to monitor the extent of petroleum companies’ commitment to working with the requirements and rules for protecting the terrestrial environment at their work sites in order to limit the occurrence of pollution in accordance with the standards, practices, laws and legislation in force in the global petroleum industry and in accordance with the petroleum agreements in force, as well as taking preventive measures to reduce leakage incidents. Oil or drilling waste leakage and pollution of the wild environment. These measures include the following:

Circulars to all exploration and production companies obligating them to line drilling waste ponds with biodegradable polyethylene to ensure that there is no contamination of the soil and groundwater.

Circulars issued to all exploration and production companies to collect waste resulting from their operations, such as (plastic waste, glass, cardboard, paper, scrap iron, damaged batteries, used oils, air filters, oil filters, used tires) and oblige them to safely dispose of this waste, which is recycling. In accordance with international procedures and specifications and under the supervision of the competent department in the Authority.
